Abstract
This article is the first to scientifically analyze archaeological research conducted in Samarkand province. In particular, such issues as the first amateur excavations, the beginning of systematic excavations, the expansion of the boundaries of archaeological excavations, the expansion of topics, the beginning of international cooperation after the collapse of the Soviet state, and the beginning of the use of new technologies in research are discussed.
